The Inverness Symphony Orchestra (formerly The Ness Sinfonia) was founded in the autumn of 2016 by ophthalmologist and keen cellist Sue Lightman; we are a weekly community orchestra catering for players of all levels across the Highlands, with a base in the city of Inverness. In its early days the core of the group grew alongside its thriving cello choir, and the orchestra currently attracts a membership of over fifty players attending each Monday evening, sharing a mutual love of orchestral music and preparing for their three principal annual concerts.
Conducted by Robin Versteeg and led by Mark Osborne, The Inverness Symphony Orchestra has over the past few seasons performed a number of exciting themed programmes, incorporating wide ranging repertoire from classical titans like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto and Mendelssohn “Hebrides” Overture, through much-loved Viennese dance music by the Strauss dynasty, to large-scale Romantic masterpieces such as Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet and Saint-Saëns’s Organ Symphony.
The orchestra meets in Inverness on Monday evenings, 7:00pm-9:30pm with a tea-break halfway through. There are no auditions and new members will be warmly welcomed. Current vacancies exist in the lower string sections, and any interested players are encouraged to get in touch by email, or via the contact form.
The Inverness Symphony Orchestra are proudly sponsored by Mr and Mrs Chima, Makar Limited, Wester Blackpark Farm and Craig Wood Solicitors and all the members would like to thank them for their support.
